Writers Wanted,
Will Train!

Back in the good old days I'd been writing for an international publisher 4 years when I hit one firm that didn't want international coverage. “But if you will get a story about us published locally then we'll open the door for you to publish stories internationally about us.”

I therefore went to a local newspaper and asked for an assignment to do a local story on that firm. They pulled out a 5 page “application for employment” form for me to fill out. What college had I attended? How many newspapers had I worked for – and I don't know what all. The real message was, “no college degree, no job.”

How different working on the Internet is. In most instances there's no need to be a Harvard graduate. I*'m not saying a degree won't help occasionally -- like when you’re applying for an online teaching career which might still require a board license -- but usually your educational attainment matters very little in your online source of income. This is also the reason why so many college and high school undergraduates who need extra cash slide into this opportunity.

Now don't get me wrong here, you will ALWAYS be needing a solid level of literacy -- and English is most probably the language that you’ll be using for this kind of stint, but other than that, your business partner won’t really be asking for your credentials or diploma.

Given these grounds, it is indeed no wonder that online jobs are becoming all the rage for people looking for additional income. Building your online career is as easy as following a favorite recipe in your own kitchen. But -- as with most trades -- a little effort and perseverance will always be needed to be successful in this field.

In fact, if you ever see an “opportunity” to get rich without effort you can be almost certain this opportunity will either require a lot of effort, or you will be making someone else rich.

In all the recorded history of mankind it has never been easier to reach out to so many prospects in so many walks of life. Internet, or the web, has indeed created a worldwide network of online families, friends, colleagues, and business partner links.

It has also paved the way for a brand new approach of studying and working – right in the comfort of our very own home.

Thus, today’s technology has fashioned a most innovative way of earning money, and that is by producing jobs that can be done in front of a monitor.

The past decade has brought about online tutors/teachers, data entry jobs, and typing jobs among others, and these business opportunities have been continuously becoming more and more popular in our generation. There are a lot of reasons why these online opportunities have begun new trends in today’s society, and listed below are some of them.

1. It’s for home buddies. Online jobs can practically be done without leaving your bedroom, or your couch, or your car, or the nearby café. Heck, it can be done anywhere, so long as you have a personal computer or a laptop, and an internet connection.

2. You own your time. A data entry project one hour before you leave for the office, an online student to be tutored once you go home, a short article for an online client to be written during your lunch break – it can be done! Since most online jobs offer part-time and full-time opportunities, people could immediately work out which job is right for them, based on their schedule. You can finish typing jobs over the weekend, or fill out survey forms before you go to sleep. The time of day that you choose to work is of little consequence, just make sure you meet the deadline set by your contact.

3. Age doesn’t matter either. A majority of very young or quite old people are already being familiarized, if not already proficient with computers and the magic of Internet-surfing. So long as one has access to those ‘business essentials’ and know how to maximize each system, they are good to go. Though some prospective online clients are looking for people aged 18 and above, there are some who aren’t really bothered with how old you are as long as you are able to deliver the ‘goods’ on time, with at least an above average level of quality.

4. This is very much a business. Once you make a decision and commence working, make sure that you work with serious intent and maintain your professionalism along the way. Surely you will go a long way.

Here is a free report, copywriting for the Web. Another free report, using words that sellRewriting Made easierpractice page.

Meanwhile, I'd like for you to try the following test to see how well you can REWRITE someone's start page. This is a new way I have discovered for making money.  It also helps me improve my own writing skills.

What I do is take someone's work and rewrite it from the ground up.  Naturally I don't want to give away all my secrets, but let's just say there is money in it for writers.  Right now I have 12,000 buyers on my list.

Okay, the version on the left is the author's original version and it is quite good.  I would not have attempted to rewrite a story this good if it weren't for the miracle of computers.  The one on the right is my rewriting.. Note the picture that brings more life to the story.

We have just had another flood, bad enough, but only a foot or two of water on the first floor. Yesterday we got the mud shoveled out of the cellar and found Peter, the spaniel that Mr. Ladley left when he "went away". The flood, and the fact that it was Mr. Ladley's dog whose body was found half buried in the basement fruit closet, brought back to me the strange events of the other flood five years ago, when the water reached more than half-way to the second story, and brought with it, to some, mystery and sudden death, and to me the worst case of "shingles" I have ever seen.

My name is Pitman—in this narrative. It is not really Pitman, but that does well enough. I belong to an old Pittsburgh family. I was born on Penn Avenue, when that was the best part of town, and I lived, until I was fifteen, very close to what is now the Pittsburgh Club. It was a dwelling then; I have forgotten who lived there.

I was only a girl yet in seventy-seven, during the railroad riots, and I recall our driving in the family carriage over to one of the Allegheny hills, and seeing the yards burning, and a great noise of shooting from across the river. It was the next year that I ran away from school to marry Mr. Pitman, and I have not known my family since. We were never reconciled, although I came back to Pittsburgh after twenty years of wandering. Mr. Pitman was dead; the old city called me, and I came. I had a hundred dollars or so, and I took a house in lower Allegheny, where, because they are partly inundated every spring, rents are cheap, and I kept boarders. My house was always orderly and clean, and although the neighborhood had a bad name, a good many theatrical people stopped with me. Five minutes across the bridge, and they were in the theater district. Allegheny at that time, I believe, was still an independent city. But since then it has allied itself with Pittsburgh; it is now the North Side.

I was glad to get back. I worked hard, but I made my rent and my living, and a little over. Now and then on summer evenings I went to one of the parks, and sitting on a bench, watched the children playing around, and looked at my sister's house, closed for the summer. It is a very large house: her butler once had his wife boarding with me—a nice little woman.

The year was 1913. Do you realize that was almost a century ago? -- and yet, as bright in my memory as if it were only yesterday. We had just had another flood, bad enough, but there was only a foot or two of water on the first floor. The day before we had hired the mud shoveled out of the cellar and there we found Peter, the spaniel that Mr. Ladley left when he "went away". The flood, and the fact that it was Mr. Ladley's dog whose body was found half buried in the basement fruit closet, brought back to me the strange events of that other flood, just five years before, in 1908 when the water reached more than half-way to the second story of our home, and brought with it, to some of us at least, a black mystery and that sudden death, and to me personally came the worst case of "shingles" I have ever seen. There were no shots in those days, no inoculations for shingles. We had to endure many things back in those days.

Oh, you had better know that my name is Pitman -- in this narrative at any rate. It is not really Pitman, but that serves us well enough. I belong to an old Pittsburgh family. I was born on Penn Avenue, back when that was the best part of town, and I lived very close to what is now the Pittsburgh Club until I was fifteen,. It was a dwelling back then; I have forgotten who lived there.

I was a quite young girl in seventy-seven. That was during the horrible railroad riots with Pinkerton Detectives clubbing people down right and left if they even thought they were dealing with a union sympathizer, and I recall our driving in the family carriage over to one of the Allegheny hills, and seeing the freight yards burning. There was a great noise of shooting from across the river. In the next year I ran away from school to marry Mr. Pitman, and I have not known my own family since. We were never reconciled after my elopement, although I came back to Pittsburgh after twenty years of wandering. Mr. Pitman was dead; the old city called me, and I came. I had a hundred dollars or so, and I took a house in lower Allegheny, where, because they are partly inundated every spring, rents are cheap, and I kept boarders. My house was always orderly and clean, and although the neighborhood had acquired a bad name by then, a good many theatrical people were relieved to find me. Five minutes across the bridge, and they were in the theater district. Allegheny at that time, I believe, was still an independent city. But since then it has allied itself with Pittsburgh so that it is now the North Side.

I was glad to get back to the city. I had to work hard, but I made my rent and my living, and a little over. Now and then on summer evenings I went to one of the parks, and sitting on a bench, watched the children playing around, and looked at my sister's house, closed for the summer.
