It used to be said that everything you needed could be found already growing, or being produced in Arkansas. That is no longer true today because of our dependence on Communist China for cheap labor made products, but if the world ever falls into chaos ARKANSAS is still THE place to be stranded.
Apple trees, peach trees, plum trees, fig trees, pecan trees, walnut trees, pear trees, persimmon trees, paw-paw trees, and other assorted fruit trees grow so easily and so abundantly that it is often the wildlife that scoops up the fruit.
Like Americans everywhere else, most people here prefer to purchase their produce already packed in a can. As one lady indignantly responded to a truck farmer who was offering her free access to all the pecans she could pick up: "Why.. You couldn't pay me enough to pick up my own pecans!"
Every year that attitude gets more predominant. Meanwhile, just turn land loose here and in three years or less it will be so overgrown with blackberries, chokeberries, boysenberries, raspberries blueberries, wild grapes and other assorted vines that only a billy goat can make his way through it. And the good news is that at Tax Sales you can get land here for as little as $100 per acre!
Many counties have over 80% of their land used for forests. Meanwhile, Prairie County (all by itself) is raising enough wheat, rice and soy beans to supply most of Europe.
