Have you ever woke up with bites on your legs or arms and wondered what in the world had been biting on you? Chances are, some bed bugs got hold of you. Chances are someone brought these bed bugs home with them, and now they are multiplying, infesting every room in your house. Bed bugs may be a subject that is a bit frightening, but you can learn what to do to treat them. And, although you may not want to hear it, there is every chance in the world that bed bugs will be found in your home at one time or another. Bed Bugs are like people. They prefer to live in clean homes, but they aren't that finicky either. They are very versatile creatures that are more than capable of hiding and lurking in places where you may not ever think to look. They came to the Americas with the conquistadors, and with the colonists too. They came on every slave ship that sailed our way; They traveled on board the Clippers, and on board the steamers too. With each new shipload of immigrants came a new wave of bed bugs, bigger, badder than the ones we already had. DDT almost killed all the Bed Bugs on earth, once. But environmentalists have yanked DDT out of our hands, and nothing else we've invented since then seems to be effective enough to stop a full scale invasion of bed bugs into our country. |

Bed Bugs can hitch rides into your home in several ways.
Buying a used mattress or used couch can give them an easy entry into your home as well. They travel well on bedding, blankets, swathes of cloth as well. But, once Bed Bugs have arrived in a home, they do NOT have to remain on those mediums of transportation. If you don't notice or identify the problem in time, Bed Bugs can go through a population explosion and they can easily move from one place to the next. Soon, there can be large numbers of them lurking in every part of your home. Most of us do not even realize what Bed Bugs do, or why they bite.
But, right now they may be hiding in your home, in your bedding or even
in your carpeting. It is essential that you take the time to learn more
about these pests. By doing this you can successful treat them, and have
a home that is free from an infestation. That's why you usually find these creatures in locations where there is food dished up regularly for them. Bus stations, train stations, even air ports can be major sources of food hosts for Bed Bugs. They are also found in the homes of friends and in other locations where there are a goodly number of hosts. This would include being found in places like hospitals, hotels, motels, shelters, apartment buildings, dorm rooms at colleges, and yes, even our prisons. Anyplace that there is a good stream of human hosts, especially if the turnover rate is high, is a good place to find living bed bugs. |
