Medieval Merriment
in Norman
Oklahoma

There was a wonderful time to be had at the Medieval Fair in Norman today with enough heavenly food being prepared that I didn't even need to eat to get full.  Nevertheless, I left with the feeling that a whole lot of vendors had turned aside because of the local weather personnel were predicting more rain.  I've been pretty disgusted myself.  We've had some high winds, rain and hail, and all of it vicious up there on my roof.

Slabs Of Steel

For compensation's sake there were some new skits with some very professional performers making them greater.  This one, for example, had a agile young woman climb into a box then sixteen slabs of steel were rammed through the box while SYT (An Acronym for Sweet Young Thing) made double-jointed contortions you had to imagine to be seen.  But most of the fun came before her partner got her into the box.  What would it take to induce her into that box?  Well, she wanted the hand of a good man in marriage if she came out alive.  The man she picked very definitely did not look like a willing participant but eventually he was prevailed upon by the audience to settle the SYT into the box.

I heard two Cherokee women watching this one from a safe distance and the one in front said to the other.. "It's a good thing that we left the kids at home."  But for me, the banter was top notch -- until the guy beside me began explaining just how the stunt was pulled.

Hey, leave me to my fantasies.

Even though there are a fair number of stones and crystals available here with your rings and other assorted work, it surprised me that sold many of the clothing booths were making so much money. however I did meet one of my old friends from Mount Ida.  For amber and Christmas Ornaments I do suggest Andrew Horski.  He and his wife are really great people, hailing from Wellston OK.  Phone 405 226-0413 if you don't see their wares at the fair, or call them back home at 405 356-2129 if you miss them altogether.

Meanwhile, I also noticed that kids and dogs outnumbered all of the adults, but although many of the dogs did run wild, none of the children did.  Many of the people you run into at the fair are dressed in medieval style but are visitors there just like you and me.It's kind of like a giant Easter Parade, e-mail like where Judy Garland does all of her strolling.

The one thing all writers have in common is a fascination with other people. When someone stops in front of me I want to know why I want to know how fast they made the decision to stop. why did someone see that before I did, that's my question.

And, here sitteth the
King and the queen in their stylish court.

I

The best thing going at the fair was turkey wings.
No pictures have I because my mind was
SO busy trying to decide how best to snitch one.
