Summary: Michigan is your four season Great Lakes vacation destination -- a land of sparkling blue waters, and warm hospitality. That means Great Times on the Great Lakes. Michigan has tried to surround Lake Michigan and it does manage to capture the upper third. Do you know what that means? Lake Michigan is ALL ours. Canada doesn't own any part of it. Up to one half of all the other Great Lakes must be shared with Canada. All the way up from Michigan City to Mackinaw City there is almost constant Michigan Lake shore access from one road or another. From the air Michigan looks about as flat as the outback of Australia.
Michigan State of Michigan Michigan State Parks Mackinaw Island Imagine a picturesque day sitting on the porch of a grand hotel, more like the Grand Hotel of Mackinaw Island. The beautiful white building is a tourist attraction in the state of Michigan. It's a ferry ride away from Mackinaw City, in the northern tip of the lower peninsula. |
Michigan is heavily crisscrossed with
Interstate Highways, roads, streets and avenues. There is scarcely
room to show where the houses are after showing where the roads are.
Most of the roads pass through Flint or Detroit.

Mackinaw Island is found at the northern tip of the lower peninsula. Mackinaw City is where Interstate 75 makes the great leap of faith on a bridge across Lake Michigan to St. Ignace. There you can catch Highway 2 for a long drive right up against the shore of Lake Michigan. Mackinaw City is also just a ferry ride away from the Grand Hotel of Mackinaw Island. The beautiful white building is a tourist attraction known everywhere in the state of Michigan. Can you imagine a peaceful, hazy, lazy day sitting on the porch of a grand hotel like this?
Michigan's Upper Peninsula "Welcome" is whispered by tall pines in the deep forests, conveyed in subtle sighs with the lapping of the waves, and shouted by the wind from mountaintop to mountaintop. "Welcome" is served with the coffee at roadside diners, tucked beside your good-night chocolate at exclusive resorts, and reflected in the wave of a friendly hand.
