The Great State
of Michigan

Summary: Michigan is your four season Great Lakes vacation destination -- a land of sparkling blue waters, and warm hospitality. That means Great Times on the Great Lakes.  Michigan has tried to surround Lake Michigan and it does manage to capture the upper third.  Do you know what that means?  Lake Michigan is ALL ours.  Canada doesn't own any part of it.  Up to one half of all the other Great Lakes must be shared with Canada.  All the way up from Michigan City to Mackinaw City there is almost constant Michigan Lake shore access from one road or another.  From the air Michigan looks about as flat as the outback of Australia.

Mackinaw Island  Imagine a picturesque day sitting on the porch of a grand hotel, more like the Grand Hotel of Mackinaw Island. The beautiful white building is a tourist attraction in the state of Michigan. It's a ferry ride away from Mackinaw City, in the northern tip of the lower peninsula.

Michigan is heavily crisscrossed with Interstate Highways, roads, streets and avenues.  There is scarcely room to show where the houses are after showing where the roads are.  Most of the roads pass through Flint or Detroit.

The beautiful white building is a tourist attraction known everywhere in the state of Michigan.   Can you imagine a peaceful, hazy, lazy day sitting on the porch of a grand hotel like this?

Michigan's Upper Peninsula "Welcome" is whispered by tall pines in the deep forests, conveyed in subtle sighs with the lapping of the waves, and shouted by the wind from mountaintop to mountaintop. "Welcome" is served with the coffee at roadside diners, tucked beside your good-night chocolate at exclusive resorts, and reflected in the wave of a friendly hand.
Munising Michigan
's multicolored sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, wildlife and the forest of the Lake Superior shoreline beckon visitors to explore this 73,000+ acre park. Attractions include a lighthouse and former Coast Guard life-saving stations along with old farmsteads and former logging trails. The park is a four season recreational destination where hiking, camping, hunting, nature study, and winter activities abound. At its widest point the Lakeshore is only five miles and hugs the Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. This was the first National Lakeshore and was authorized in 1966.

Harbor Springs:  Located on Little Traverse Bay along the shores of Lake Michigan, Harbor Springs offers visitors recreational and cultural activities, including art fairs, boutique shopping, skiing, golfing, boating and outdoor concerts. From the quaint atmosphere of downtown Harbor Springs to unique accommodations and all that Northern Michigan has to offer, visitors enjoy the area as much as those who live here year-round.
The Harbor Springs area offers some of the most challenging ski slopes and the best championship golf courses in the Midwest, along with excellent schools, business opportunities, health care and community support services.
Be sure to visit Paula Dawson at The Veranda at Harbor Springs.  The Veranda is a landmark institution. It was built over 100 years ago in Petoskey, Michigan, and then it was pulled across the ice by horses to its present location in Harbor Springs. The Veranda has enjoyed a very colorful history and, for the past century, has welcomed guests and travelers as both a boarding house and a bed and breakfast inn.
Paula says:  "The Veranda with it's sweeping gables and five sided cupola, was built more than a century ago in nearby Petoskey and then pulled across the ice by horses. Now, this immaculately restored Victorian gem graces, the old fashioned downtown of Harbor Springs, a place known for its upscale shopping, great gold courses, water sports and fine dining.
"Our guests can indulge themselves with stuffed pecan French toast with Michigan maple syrup or freshly baked cinnamon rolls as well as other breakfast items on the enclosed L-shaped veranda that overlooks the bay or in the formal dining room. The antique filled house is a great place to spend time but the quaint town of Harbor Springs also has plenty to offer visitors."
