Using Better KEYWORDS

Having good keywords in your meta tags is no longer such a big deal. However, having good keywords inside your article or story IS that important. Fortunately for us writers, there is a free tool out there called Good Keywords. It can be used for much more than finding the common words people usually search for. But let's start with that. My latest story will serve as an example to work with.

With Good Keywords I can sweep through that page and count the number of times each and every word on that page occur. The keyword I'm trying to hit is NEGOTIATION. The double keyword I want to attract visitors to is NEGOTIATION TRAINING.

Counting Word Popularity

Naturally, a good writer can't be bothered with counting word popularity when producing a good story. So, I'm prepared to NOT see enough direct hits on my original story. Still, it is disappointing. Out of all 800 words in my article the word "negotiation" only appears eleven times. The word TRAINING only appears twice. The two words NEVER appear in sequence, no not even in reverse.

So, here we have a good story, that is not the powerhorse I was hoping to create.

Consequently, I'll go back into the article and rewrite it with the hope of inserting those KEY WORDS into the narrative without ticking the reader off. For example, "Good NEGOTIATION TRAINING can ease a situation like this."

A Free Keyword Tool

This sweet little tool (did I mention it is free) will even tell you how many times any word, and similar words were searched for during the last month at Overture.Com. Then it goes on to mention the popularity of TWO WORD PHRASES containing your keyword, and then the popularity of THREE WORD PHRASES containing your keyword. Incidentally, have you noticed how many times the word KEYWORDS appears in this article? These results are not derived from wishful thinking or even contrived fabrications, you are learning the relevant combinations of that word based on actual searches being done by real people.

Therefore, if NEGOTIATION TRAINING has a score of 418,234 then that many people did a search for those two words in that sequence. They did not, for example, ask for NEGOTIATION WITH TRAINING. No, they asked for NEGOTIATION TRAINING by name.

That also means that if the word you type in is not a common search term then you will not get any results. And that is good news, because why would you be writing on a subject nobody wants to hear about? Good Keywords guide you to quality optimization of your stories so that more people WILL, not can, find your article when it is placed on the web.
"But I'm not going to put my story on the web!" you wail? You still want to know if the subject you are going to write about will be interesting to the public, before you take the time and expense of producing it. Furthermore, using Good Keywords will pop out combinations of facets you never even thought of.

For example, SALARY negotiation showed up.  Had I thought of that? NOOOO.

Did I know that millions of people were searching for NEGOTIATION SKILLS last month? NOOOOO again and with infinite sadness.

But I do now and I am more excited than ever about providing them exactly what they are searching for. Incidentally, after only one day there are now 109 links to that page!
