With a capacity limited to a maximum of 15 guests at a time, the Indian Creek Guest Ranch near North Fork, Idaho is small enough to allow each guest to receive personalized service.  It provides guests with personable and knowledgeable guides, throwing in fun and educational outdoor activities, and adding first class lodging and dining, all in a friendly, relaxing, and beautiful environment.

The ranch's four cabins vary in size, sleeping two to five, each one having its own bathroom and shower.

 

Almost 200 Years ago Lewis and Clark explored Indian Creek while seeking a route to the Columbia River.

100 Years ago the Kitty Burton and Ulysses mines were thriving gold camps on Indian Creek.

Today Indian Creek retains the same allure and magic of the past.

 

This is not a “cookie cutter” guest ranch.

The first priority here is to provide fun and educational adventures in a relaxing and beautiful environment.  Customized itineraries based on the interest and desires of guests are provided.

 Fishing: Learn to fly cast on Indian Creek’s private pond and enjoy the surrounding streams and rivers.  Experience Idaho ’s premier sport fish during the fall steelhead runs in the nearby Salmon River .

Horseback Riding: Enjoy a horseback ride along the creek, a riding lesson, or take a longer ride up on the mountain trails.  Keep a camera handy - the scenery is breathtaking and the views are incredible. 

Scenic Float Trips: Spend the day floating a scenic section of the Main Salmon River.  Enjoy a river that is famous worldwide for its scenery, wildlife and grandeur.  Shore lunches are provided.

Hiking: Hike the ranch’s interpretive trail or explore one of many ridges overlooking the Salmon River canyon. This is also a great location for wildlife viewing and bird watching. It is possible to spot and photograph bighorn sheep, elk, deer, bear, moose, eagles, herons, osprey, and hawks.

Natural History Trail: A self-guided interpretive trail offers 50 points of interest while teaching in a natural setting. Included are Native American and mining history, big game tracks, antler rubs, bones, and plant identification.

Mountain Biking: For a different view of the surrounding beauty, try biking the trails.

Visit Historic Gold Mining Camps: View the Ulysses and Kitty Burton mines where gold mining thrived 100 years ago and learn how they operated.

 Interpretive Trail

 

The managers of the ranch have created an interpretive trail with 50 points of interest, including Native American and mining history, big game tracks, antler rubs, bones and plant identification. This area is also great for birding and wildlife viewing, including bighorn sheep, elk, deer, bear, moose, eagles, herons, osprey, and hawks.

 Salmon River steelhead are explosive and challenging.  Indian Creek Guest Ranch is uniquely situated, offering 44 miles of these superb fishing waters. Excellent steelhead fishing opportunities occur in the fall from late September to early November.  Local guides specialize in fly rod techniques.

 Historical Interest

 

In 1805 the Lewis and Clark Corp of Discovery explored Indian Creek and the nearby Salmon River . In addition, Indian Creek Guest Ranch served as the Red Onion Saloon to local miners in the early 1900’s. The ranch buildings retain their historic flavor and charm while offering modern comforts and amenities. The staff demonstrates shooting a replica of an 1803 flintlock rifle and the history of the area is worked in to the talks and activities at the ranch.

 

Accommodations

 
 Fluffy down comforters, a warm glow from gas lamps, and rustic log and wood furnishings give the cabins a romantic charm. The main lodge, with its large dining area, sitting room, deck and wood fired hot tub provide a friendly gathering place.
 
Fine dining is a long standing tradition at Indian Creek.  Tempting meals served family style combine western and gourmet cuisine.  Dutch oven cookouts are a weekly

occurrence and include prime rib, homemade breads, cakes and deserts, all cooked outdoors over hot coals. Barbecues can be scheduled, and for daily excursions, picnic lunches are provided.  Enjoy the evening wine selection while sampling delicious appetizers on the deck overlooking Indian Creek Canyon.

 

The chef features fresh local specialty foods on the menu, including smoked duck and goose, elk, homemade sausage, rhubarb pie, jams made from ranch raised fruit, and Idaho potatoes.
