Computer
Stress Elimination
By Chris Elliott
-SES (Strained Eye Syndrome)
-Do your eyes hurt from staring at this screen all day?
Staring at a computer monitor all day is something EVERY internet business person has done at one point and probably does everyday. The problem with this is the burning sensation you get when you get up for a midnight snack or to go outside. I avoid this by doing some simple things you can do to COMPLETELY avoid SES. Here are the routines I do on a regular basis:
First, EVERY 45-60 minutes I get off the computer for 5-10 minutes and go outside or wherever and let my eyes get some movement just as if I were on a long drive and stopped to stretch, same principle.
Second, if I'm on the computer for over 3 hours, I reward myself with a 30 minute reading break. This really unwinds my eyes and relieves any tension. Reading 30 minutes a day has also been proven to reduce your chances of getting Alzheimer Disease by 30% and sometimes more.
-Does your neck & back feel
all tense and tied up in knots?
Sitting in a chair all day can really do a number on your neck & back. A
simple solution I used was to invest in an executive office chair. I know this
sounds very spendy but you can find one at a local thrift store or at a nearby
auction house. I was given one by a friend who had it resting in a storage unit
for many years. Although buying an executive chair doesn't completely rid your
neck & back of pain, chances are, it will greatly reduce it.
A supplement to having an executive office chair that I use to completely eliminate neck & back pain is to take a 15 minute walk or jog.
I know you're saying "Why would I go walking if my back is hurting?", right? But the truth is walking and jogging works every part of your body which, in turn, will loosen & stretch your muscles. "A walk a day keeps the back pain away"
-Do your fingers feel like a gnarled ball of nerves?
Now this is a problem that is very abundant in eBusiness owners and the pain in your fingers can eventually lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which can be very painful and sometimes require surgery.
The number one preventative measure I take is building strength in my fingers. My favorite way to do this is to buy a "Stress Ball". These soft, goo filled balls really loosen your fingers up and can be used at any time.
Another caution: DON'T crack your knuckles, I cannot emphasize this enough! You will save yourself a lot of pain by just avoiding this bad habit.
