I've been calling long distance for 4.5¢ a minute with Uni-Tel for about two years now and never thought about changing until this sweet talking agent from AT&T called up to offer prices almost as low as I was getting from Uni-Tel. "500 minutes a month for only $19.95, in state or out of state, call any time of the day, with the first six months free. If you don't like the service we'll switch you back for free at any time during the first six months." |
What an amazing offer. I was astounded that AT&T had finally began
to see the light and actually compete with the other carriers. Cautiously,
I made absolutely certain she said what I thought she was saying, and I
switched. Then I went on calling long distance as I usually did, secure in
the knowledge my first six months were free.
Then came the bill.Only a few days were recorded at that point, and dad-gum-me if my bill wasn't higher than a cat's back with rates up to 15¢ a minute, depending on when I dialed! We got AT&T on the phone immediately to correct the company's mistake. There was no mistake, not on their part. There was no such plan in existence at AT&T, "But we do give you better quality and more service." Well, if I could not tell the difference, The worst insult was their insistence that the mistake was "Well, if AT&T can't compete, switch us back like you promised then." "Sorry, we can't do that either." Customer service at AT&T swore they could not possibly switch me back, The only concession we did finally wring from AT&T's customer service I finally, after two weeks of scrambling, got UniTel long distance service |
Inside every bill I protested that I did not want AT&T, and requested they
get off my line and quit charging me for service I did not want. Finally, when
the bill for the NINTH month came in I wrote back to advise AT&T that I
would no longer be paying any of the bills they sent.
| After that I began receiving threatening calls from AT&T customer service saying they would cut my service off if I didn't pay. Now hold it right there. If they can FINALLY cut it off when THEY want to, There's a liar in there somewhere. |
The threat was also there that MY credit will be injured by not paying them What did I finally do? What I should have done in December... Contact the FCC Okay. Right up to the minute, HOW did I know I was still stuck with AT&T Since your long distance phone service carrier can be changed without you Simply dial 1-700-555-4141. The words: "Thank you for choosing AT&T" will let you know AT&T is To see if your intraLATA has been switched, just dial either
One more thing before getting down to business. If you even suspect a phone |
Now, here is a copy of the letter I sent to the FCC..
| My phone number is 405 872 5556 and I am fed up with AT&T's failure to fulfill any of the promises made to me, failure to get me disconnected from AT&T and willful desire to continue harassing me for service I do not want and can get better and cheaper from the company I already had. I've been calling long distance for 4.5¢ a minute with Uni-Tel for about two years now and never thought about changing until this sweet talking agent from AT&T called up to offer prices almost as low as Uni-Tel. We got AT&T on the phone to correct the company's mistake. There was no mistake, not on their part. No Sir! They had what they wanted -- me securely on their hook. There was no such plan in existence at AT&T, furthermore AT&T, even with all their juggling, could not come anywhere close to matching that price I had already had with Uni-tel. "But we do give you better quality and more service." Well, if I could not tell the difference, I did not want to pay the difference. The worst insult was their insistence that the mistake was all mine. It was up to me to pay that first bill. That was galling enough. "Well, if AT&T can't compete, switch us back like you promised then." "Sorry, we can't do that either." Customer service at AT&T swore they could not possibly switch me back, and most assuredly they could not do it for free as I'd been promised. The only concession we did finally get from AT&T's customer service was that they would "castigate" the agent that sold us all this hogwash. I finally, after two weeks, got UniTel long distance service reinstalled on my phone line. But that was not the end of AT&T. Six months later AT&T is STILL sending bills to me even though I have repeatedly protested that I do not want AT&T in any way, shape, form or fashion. Inside every bill I protested that I did not want AT&T, and requested they get off my line and quit charging me for service I did not want. When the bill came in three months ago I wrote back to advise AT&T that I would no longer be paying the bills they send. Now I am receiving threatening calls from AT&T customer service saying they will cut my service off if I don't pay. Well, if they can FINALLY cut it off, is there any way they could not cut it off when I first asked them to? The threat is also there that MY credit will be injured by not paying them for service I have repeatedly asked to have removed. I do hereby lodge a formal complaint against this company's high handed practices and insist that I be remunerated for the bills I have already paid since Christmas of last year and that those bills which I have not paid be deleted from my account. Furthermore, if they have had the nerve to tag my credit report with ANY posting that it be immediately removed. Last but not least, I want an official apology from the company for the terrible injustice I have suffered at the company's hands. Any communication from AT&T must be in writing and on paper I can take to court if necessary to resolve this issue. I will not consider ANY verbal or phone negotiations with the company as legal or binding. Thank you. |
