Look for Entirety Lot auctions.  They are your chance to bid safely.

Here, read the first half of the Terms:
"This lot of assets is being offered both in a single entirety lot and in multiple individual lots. If the entirety lot receives a bid greater than the sum of the bids on the individual lots, the entirety lot bidder will win. In the event of a tie bid [entirety bid versus separate lot bids], the entirety lot bidder will win."

Okay, you say, it looks like the entirety lot bidder wins any way the auction goes.  Nope, Let's look at a real life situation going on in Mojave County Arizona even as I speak.

"Individual Lot Terms:
This lot of assets is being offered both in a single entirety lot and in multiple individual lots. If the sum of the bids on the individual lots is greater than the bid received on the entirety lot, the individual lot bidders will win. In the event of a tie bid [entirety bid versus separate lot bids], the entirety lot bidder will win."

The keyword here is SUM.  

There are four lots here with NO BID on them, and NO reserve price built in.  By bidding $100 on one of these four, if in the heat of the auction the other six lots are auctioned off at MORE than the entirety bid then YOU will get your lot for $100!

I get a real kick out of reading good land ads.  Here's one I did not write, but I am definitely jealous because it is better than any I've wrote.

"Okay, here's the story. This parcel is not for everybody. Don't buy it just because it's cheap and so are you. It is steep, it is rugged, It is covered with dense vegetation, the access road is laughable and it is found 'way out in the Reynolds County boondocks. 

This is NOT a good place for you to save money on a homestead property.  If you're looking for something that's too good to be true, go back to perusing those "government land sales" and foreclosure deals."
