Weather in January is wet, with chances of snow in the higher regions. Guests are encouraged to bring some good books, take advantage of the spa and great dining experience. Also The Aerie is only 30 minutes via car from Victoria, BC's capital city. Each day, the chef hosts a menu discussion and tasting session for all guests at 4:30 p.m. Show cooking classes are also available upon request. Normally the resort is closed for a few weeks in January, but because many renovations were done over the past year ( expansion of the wellness centre and treatment rooms, opening of the Villa Cielo) the management team decided to stay open for January and offer a great rate!

BACKGROUND
Perched high in the mountains of Southern Vancouver
Island and only 30
minutes from the provincial capital city of Victoria, the world-renowned
Aerie Resort & newly opened Villa Cielo preside over silent forests,
lush parklands and a stunning ocean view. Inspired by the splendor and
character of the Malahat mountain pass, owner, Maria Schuster and her
family opened The Aerie in 1991 in a Mediterranean-style mansion
reminiscent of Southern Europe. Surrounded by eighty-five acres of
meticulously kept grounds and gardens, the breath-taking view from the
resort and villa are worth the trip alone. A grand setting combined with
impeccable service and style has established The Aerie Resort as the
premier choice for guests seeking romantic hideaways, relaxing
resort-style holidays, group retreats and elegant settings for special
occasions.
Dining is an equally important part of the experience at
The Aerie
Resort. Executive Chef Christophe Letard, offers French cuisine with a
Pacific Northwest influence and embraces the abundance of local products
from seafood to fresh berries.

Don’t forget your camera as Cumberland’s scenic beauty offers unparalleled photo opportunities for the camera buff. If driving from Victoria the time is about one and one-half hours to Nanaimo. From Nanaimo there are two routes to Cumberland: If you take the scenic coast shore route on Highway 19 the driving time will be about one hour and twenty-five minutes. Or you can further shorten the driving time to Cumberland by taking the new Inland Island Highway from Nanaimo to Courtenay, which is an hour’s drive. Cumberland is ten minutes west from Courtenay. Diamond exploration in Canada began in the 1960s, but major discoveries of diamond-bearing kimberlite ore did not occur until the 1990s. With the discovery of diamonds in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut in 1991, Canada has risen to become one of the top three diamond producers in the world in terms of value, behind Botswana and Russia. Currently, Canada produces 15% of the world's diamonds. According to Statistics Canada, 13.8 million carats of diamonds worth approximately $2.8 billion have been mined in Canada between 1998 and 2002. To put it in perspective, each day Canada produces one 1.5 kilogram bag of diamonds worth $1.5 million. It is hoped that the diamond mines will provide income for decades to come. Many world tourists think of Canada as a land of wonderful natural scenery and although the country is much more than that, the Banff and Lake Louise area is probably one of the best examples of Canadian natural beauty. The Province of Alberta is approximately 255,200 square miles in size and boasts incredible scenery and abundant natural resources. It is situated between the provinces of Saskatchewan to the East and British Columbia to the west, with Northwest Territories to the North and the state of Montana, with the USA bordering the south. Even so, they most all have two things in common. First, they usually are not particularly complicated. It certainly can sometimes take a while to get it; but once you do get it, the lesson is normally straight-up and to the point. Second, and here is the rub, the lessons invariably are a "So now you tell me!" kind of thing.
