In The World

What can beat
a family beach vacation?
Beaches in the Eastern United States. With some notable exceptions, most of the barrier islands on the southeast coast have been developed. That's not the case in Georgia. Thanks to the efforts of a small number of individuals and organizations, Ten of Georgia's fourteen major barrier islands have been preserved by either public or private initiative. If you want to play golf and tennis and be pampered like royalty-and pay handsomely for the privilege-there are places on Georgia's coast that will be glad to accommodate you1. If you'd rather be pampered in a natural environment, there are other islands to visit2 . If you are of average means and want to enjoy the coast with some creature comforts, there are islands for you3. The barrier islands in Georgia offer ambiance, sandy beaches, and a laid back attitude towards life. Jekyll Island offers you miles of paved bike path with three 18 hole golf courses, which is perfect for golf enthusiasts. |

Ocracoke Island
For nearly 12 continuous miles, the dunes and marsh lands of the
island are untouched, providing a home for birds, deer, muskrats,
rabbits, and other wild animals. The several beaches on the island
are some of the last pristine beaches left in America. Fishermen and
anglers are allowed to drive on the beach, with surf fishing being
truly great here. |
