Even
the birds are excited about The Old Mill, in North Little
Rock where the opening shot of Gone With The Wind was filmed. It is a
favorite of photographers because of the flowers, and the unique landscaping
where posing just plain comes natural. This, incidentally is the very first
picture I ever took of my father for publication.
He was shocked when I took the first one, and surprised when I kept on taking pictures. By the time I was through with my second roll, he was too angry to care what I did. Even at 80 he can still cut more wood, split more logs, and stack more ricks than any of his four sons, and on a good day he can do more than ALL of his sons put together in a team against him.
"But Tink, I'm not about to do THIS for a living!
This
end shot is about the best you'll get
and is best in April when all the flowers are fresh bloomed.
About 4 years ago my landlady showed me a black and white photo of the Old Mill BEFORE there was anything there besides the old mill. It was taken from about 70 feet in back of where I was standing for the above picture. I refused to accept her print because I thought it was valuable.

Daddy was wearing out here
He was no longer posing, just being himself.
And in this
photo,
I caught the real Daddy.

"The
Pose" was taken at The Old Mill also. I didn't get their names, much
less an address. What struck me most about the pair was that both were
obviously professional in their approach even though the idea of selling
one of their pictures was not on their agenda. "My daughter is a model.
I guess we are just keeping in practice."
Virtually every spot at the Old Mill is a good site to take a picture. It is a combination of shade, light, flowers, trees, running water, a splash of history, and the cement structures.
Parking is tough at times. I've never had anyone complain about me parking in their driveway on the other side of the road, but I did get a frown once.
Like thousands of other people, I got married at the Old Mill. I cannot think of a more wonderful place to get married, though it does get crowded. People do gladly step out of the way for marriage ceremonies. But still, they can't help but get in the way farther out.
