The Arkansas
Grand Prairie Museum

by Lin Stone

It now consists of a main building measuring 20,000 square feet, five complete and authentic out-buildings, a prairie house, a Lutheran Church at two-thirds scale, an original Mennonite school, a firehouse, and a print shop. The museum has also purchased land to the north of the present structure on which to build a 10,000 square foot addition, once sufficient funds have been raised.
The prairie house home exhibit completely enthralled me.  Yes, it was built on the site, instead of being moved in.  But the artifacts inside are indicative of the time and place.  You'll even find the old chamber pot hidden under the beds.  The only thing missing are the mosquitoes.

I hope that by this time you appreciate the great debt of gratitude we all owe to those pioneers who settled our land.  Because of their sacrifices, work, innovation, and spirit our nation can rightly claim its heritage of greatness.

The museum charges no admission fees, but gladly and gratefully welcomes donations.
The museum also hosts a number of fund raisers during the year to support its operations.

I have deliberately left this next picture large to show you the detail you can
expect to see in a ScreenSaver being made of my visit to the museum.
Just fill out the form below the picture, saying you have sent a donation to the museum
and I'll send the download page for the ScreenSaver to you when it is ready.
