goose hunting, turkey hunting, and fishing.  Stuttgart is most famous
for its duck hunting though.  It is the Rice and Duck Capital of the
World.  The article below is about duck hunting in Arkansas this

Duck Hunting in
Stuttgart Arkansas

Yes, it is time to dig those waders out of the garage and find that heavy duty parka you bought a couple years ago. As the leaves are falling, and the days are getting shorter, Christmas might be just around the corner but there is something else some of us just have to do first...Last minute duck hunting preparations. So head down to the store and grab a couple boxes of shells and those state and federal duck stamps, because duck season is now open and mother nature has been good to us duck hunters so far this year.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have been counting the ducks and checking their list twice (See bottom of article for the "Duck count numbers") and the verdict's in....... This is going to be a good year for duck hunting, especially out here on the grand prairie. Where is a better place on the prairie to duck hunt than Stuttgart - The Rice and Duck Capital of the World..

Local hunters are seeing the signs of the ducks already coming in and Marion McCollum of MACK'S PRAIRIE WINGS credits the potential for a record duck season with the abundant rainfall we are having this fall, AGFC's water supply improvements on the Bayou Meto Wildlife Management Area, and in a weird way results from higher diesel fuel prices. The reason he gives for that thought is down here in the heart of rice and soybean farming in Arkansas, farmers are changing their farming practices by making fewer sweeps across fields when they harvest their crops. The bonus for hunters is by the farmers trying to save money, more feed has been left in the fields than normally would.

So why not find out why hunters have enjoyed for many, many years....the place the ducks and myself call home....STUTTGART.

Stuttgart and the surrounding areas offer public access lands and many well established guide services and duck lodges. so load up the lab, grab your trusty shotgun and come on down to the hometown of the "World Duck Calling Contest" and enjoy some good ole' southern hospitality.  So use the links, the duck at the top of this page and the Learn More About Stuttgart, at the bottom, to find a guide service if you need one.  And from my family to yours...Ya'll have a good safe hunt.

DUCK CALLING 101

For a beginner understanding duck calling starts with one learning the 4 basic call types

1.    Hail Call - this is a series of loud pleading quacks used to get a flocks attention

2.    Greeting Call - this is a series of five excited quacks used to bring them in closer

3.    Feed Call - this is a lower volume series of waddles quacks used to get them on the water or at least in the zone

4.    Come Back Call - this call like the greeter call but louder and longer pleading quacks used as its name implies
