Random House Ventures, LLC, the investment subsidiary of Random House, Inc., the world's largest trade book publisher, has acquired a significant minority position in Xlibris. This bridges the distinction between traditional book publishing and the Internet-driven world of direct personal access to electronic and print-on-demand publication. Xlibris and its new strategic partner both strongly believe that every writer's work deserves an opportunity to reach its readership.
Well, that was the dream of Xlibris anyway. I've just received this letter directly from the publisher:
We know how important your manuscript is to you and
we want to help you get it published in the fastest
and most economical way. And now is the best time to submit your work.
Effective March 1, 2001, our free publishing service prices will increase to:
Core
$200 Complete publishing service with an Xlibris design
Advanced
$500 Includes an image on the cover and choice of templates
Professional
$900 More cover and interior options plus hardcover
Premium
$1,600 Fully customizable: talk directly with the designers
The Core service, which we will no longer offer at no charge,
has been enhanced to include a trade paperback copy for review.
The Advanced, Professional, and Premium services will continue
to offer the same level of design control, graphics, tables,
corrections, and registration features, etc. that make these
enhanced options attractive to authors whose books require more attention.
We want to help you get your manuscript into our system
before the new prices take effect. If your submission* is
postmarked by February 28th or earlier, you can save
$200 (Core & Advanced), $300 (Professional), or $400 (Premium)
versus our new prices. With our combination of complete publishing services,
author control, and connections to the industry, Xlibris still delivers
an outstanding value and a terrific way for writers to get published.
It's just particularly good between now and February 28th!
