Inasmuch as hundreds of high school students and thousands of college students are coming to this page in hopes of finding an essay they can convince some figure of authority they have written, let me give you some advice... Copy any of these that appeal to you and go through it sentence by sentence.  Ask yourself:  "How much of this do I believe, and how much of it simply sounds good.  I know, it takes a little bit of thinking and you probably haven't cut yourself any slack by starting early.  This really won't take that long, and occasional bouts of real thinking are good for you.

When you finish writing out your responses on a separate file, go back to the essay you responded to and pick out the most blatant statement there,,, "David Crockett said, " and put that in the first sentence of your file.

Now go back through your responses with that nugget gleaming brightly before your eyes rewrite everything you had to say.

Throw in some other quotes to support your views and you are done. No college professor will ever realize you didn't write the whole thing yourself.

This poignant essay of a man measuring himself against his father by a professional author will bring warmth and joy to your heart.  Down with the Willow by Lin Stone

David Crockett's essay on Governmental Charity.

They say that God works in mysterious ways. I, for one, am a true believer of this. Sometimes His tests of endurance leave us feeling as if we may not make it through. But, like Helen Keller once said, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it”.  Last year My family had a pretty hard year, but nothing compared to what would happen just three days before Christmas, 2003...

Only poets are divine.   Whence cometh then this belief that teachers are always right and mere authors so sacred?

My young grandson had a right royal smashup on his high powered motorcycle this morning.  His ribs were broken, his arms were broken, one leg was broken, and much of his handsome face won't be handsome any more unless the Lord sends a miracle down.

Is your bathroom cleaner than your kitchen?

Inasmuch as we know that nations, like individuals, are subjected to the punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of Civil War that now desolates our land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people. Abe Lincoln

People admiring my work often say, "I could never do that!" I say, "Yes, you can!" The Artist Within

Is Your Money Safe In The Bank?  Banks are institutions wherein miracles happen regularly. We rarely entrust our money to anyone but ourselves – and our banks. Despite a very chequered history of mismanagement, corruption, false promises and representations, delusions and behavioural inconsistency – banks still succeed to motivate us to give them our money.

As the war clouds gather round us again the War Will Make Us Rich theory of economics rears its ugly head in the bars and even in some business circles once more.  Even state and national historians have insisted the theory is true that war will save our economy and in some magical way boost the supply of bucks bumping around in our pockets as we "SPEND OUR WAY out of a depression."

The Lady, or the Tiger?   We all face danger with every choice we make.  Here you will find reassurance and insight.

Is boredom a curse, or a blessing?

Hope and Love are the only tools known that can break down the barriers between warring nations.

The men of the Third Division are young, strong and eager. Judging from history, their enthusiasm will last right up to the moment someone shoots back.

To equip the 650 whalers for just one voyage required an aggregate of 100,000 barrels of flour at six dollars a barrel, 32,500 barrels of corn at 70 cents a barrel. 6,500 bushels of bea

Lawrence of Arabia opined it took 15 regular troops to counteract 1 guerilla, based on his experience during World War I in this area. Modern thinking posits a range of ten to twenty troops per guerrilla. If so, it doesn't take too many guerillas before we're eating substantially into our standing forces. We've been overusing the reserves and the guard, according to Senator Kay Hutchinson, and small businesses are having a hard time supporting their employees being gone.

Pollsters are predicting a huge turnout for this election, in fact some of them are predicting that as high as one fourth the registered voters will make it all the way to the polls. In the cold crucible of Valley Forge things were a little bit different.

The Poor You Have Always With You

The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most.

"Freeze to death on one side and burn up on the other," they said and all their adherents chorused after them in the same tune. Sounds awful, doesn't it, kind of like roasting in hell?

Is Gambling WRONG? This is an age old question and since the Bible does not directly address gambling it leaves the subject open for debate. Many will conclude that it's harmless while others will feel quite strongly that it is wrong.

With the coming of the Olympic games once again, I am reminded of the history behind the legends of the gods and goddesses and the games themselves. In the history of my culture, truths were passed down from one generation to another in the manner of tales, riddles, and stories since time immemorial.

Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment -- to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful. Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her student's art. And they were. But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher's true child of misery, frail and unhappy. As other children played at recess, Douglas was likely to stand close by her side. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt behind those sad eyes.

Are we giving hospitality? Back in those days "meat" was not served at every meal. When you served "meat" it was a special event.

Dig Your Own Grave, an essay of doing the inevitable, at home for yourself with good directions and great resources thrown in.

Can You Quit Smoking?  Probably not.  Most people who have saddled themselves with this bad habit CAN'T.  One man tried everything, even kicking himself.  All he got was a bruised bottom, until . . . There's hope for you too.

Life, by contrast with inert matter, is usually regarded as essentially busy, active, and dynamic. But maybe life is not different from inert matter. Perhaps life, just like inert matter, does the minimum - and we would gain a deeper understanding of life if we saw it not as trying to busy itself, but seeking to be idle.  Click HERE and discover a fascinating group of essays from a very profound and excellent author.
