Our Nation's Children

Hello:

Sometimes it seems as though the Internet is your child’s best friend. Being online has turned into another world for them. The good thing about this is there are things they can do that can be rewarding and provide educational insight.  It’s important for you to stay informed and involved because the online world changes in an instant and the change is constant.   In fact, ONE of our biggest frustrations in creating helpful links to web sites for children is that the owners of that distant site may move off, and let someone else take over the site.  Suddenly our links are going to pages with entirely inappropriate material, or worse yet, the site gets sold to a front man, who then turns around and sells the site to the vendor of completely inappropriate material to reap all that innocent traffic from that site that kids have been telling all their friends about.

It is common knowledge that children are being approached online today at an alarming rate.   Most of the victims are under the age of 15.  Every year this epidemic continues to grow.  Your child may be in danger of becoming a statistic at this very moment

Used to be all you had to worry about was that shady neighbor down the street that was always leering out the Venetian blinds.  Television dominated most of our spare time back then.  Now -- with  millions of children logging on to access the riches of the Internet  every day, television is more of  a passing memory. .

Just like adults, children use the Internet to surf and communicate with their friends or make new ones.  But on the Internet it is almost impossible to tell how old these new friends really are.  Consequently, every day your children are online is one more day where they can be touched by something they’re not supposed to.  Even with adult supervision the entire time they’re online some children can access some of the crudest sites on the web.

Predators will use their devious cunning and do everything possible to alienate your child's natural affections from you, so they can lure your child off into a dirty trap.  Predators come in all forms.  Your child may be thinking they’re in an innocent conversation with someone their own age.  It's only later that you find out, it was an adult stranger looking for the next victim.

Wouldn't it be best  if you knew what your children are doing NOW and where they are going when they get online?  Children will also download anything that’s free with a chuckle of glee.  If it is free they know that you don't have to buy it for them.  However, some of these items are loaded with potential threats to your computer.   Frequently invite them to show you everything they found interesting on the web  Protect your children, and yourself, by making sure the online environment they surf into is clean and safe.  With appropriate monitoring, you’ll be able to know your child’s every move on the Internet.
