The Dineh (Din'e) shake hands as a matter of course, but it is more like touching hands than shaking them. Most often they glance away from each other even as they touch hands. The children of today are much more vigorous in their handshaking, often walking up and insisting on a firm handshake.
When you visit the Navajo artisans in their own homes you will find them to be fiercely concentrated on their work. This is the way it is to be. I stayed in the home of Asol Keesh for a week, watching as he produced a water color work I designated as The Invisible Horse. It is a scene of a hunter coming home in a snowstorm. The white horse is virtually invisible, so are several other animals in the scene, a rabbit, the deer being brought home. Symbols are hidden there too. Other things are quite vivid in the water color. I don't have this painting listed here yet, but the pictures are being developed and will be soon, along with other items from this great artist.
