The quickest way to start your own web site is with a blog.  Blogs are perfect for writers because the one thing successful writers want to do is write; they don't want to fuss with html, code, or even packages where all you gotta do is -- .  Blogs LET you focus on your writing.  In fact, having a blog of your own insists that you write. 

There's nothing like having a whip cracking across your back to stimulate the writing process.  So, let's get moving.

1. You can start your own blog at bloggerdotcom, or you can create an account at some other place that lets you create a blog. 

2. You can add your material to someone else's web site.  Tale Wins, for example, offers to put your family-safe material up for you at no charge.  You can add affiliate links and ads too, at no charge.  Tale Wins also offers you a place to post your own stories just so people can read what you write.

3. After you get your feet wet, once you understand how to blog then, and only then, do you want to start your own web site.   use the very same program that Tale Wins uses.  It's simple, easy to understand and works fairly well.

Do you understand what I'm saying here?  You don't have to start out with a full blown enterprise that takes you months of groundwork before you can even lay the foundation.  You can take tiny little baby steps that ANYBODY can master, and learn as you go.

I read a book today by Elmore Leonard, probably less than a thousand words, and decorated with drawings so badly executed they might have been mine.  A thousand words, and the book sells $23.95  That's a pretty big profit.
Then I picked up a book The Art of Learning, written by a whiz kid that had won the world's championship at chess before he was a teenager.  He was saying that we live in a time of narrowing circles and if we understand the contents of a smaller circle we can outperform any of the larger circles.
So, a few of the thousand words by Elmore Leonard are:  "If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it."
Now, if you read his quote you can HEAR the comma.  If it sounds like writing -- COMMA -- I rewrite it.
That tells me Elmore Leonard is writing by sound.  Because he writes for the ear he assumes that the rest of the world converts the words he writes into sounds the ear can hear.  He expects us to hear the comma.
But it is becoming increasingly obvious that the writers emerging today are no longer constrained by what the ear can hear.  Especially through the medium of web technology these new writers have the power to sculpt their words into concerted pencil points that must be seen to be understood.  They have the power to choose the cadence and the medium of the cadence so that it might not be the ear that hears or even the eye that sees, but the imagination that clicks off into overdrive and delivers the contents in a sprawling spawn across the starry heavens that each reader reacts to intuitively.
