Our friend Gary was telling me yesterday how they used to purify water when he was a child.  We used charcoal he said.  We ran a stream over one pot of charcoal, then ran that same water over another pot, then over yet a third pot.
And that purified the water, I asked.
Well, we think it did and it tasted great but after it came out of that third pot we dumped the water into a cistern outside to store it so we could draw it forth all year long.  By the end of summer there were a lot of frogs in there.  Sooooo, it was hard to tell if that water was purified or not.
There is always that measure of uncertainty in life, huh?

We were over in that part of Port Arthur where the deadwood grows and all the Texaco stations were closed for good -- run out of business the local folks said.   We drove all the way across town to find one.  There was no windshield cleaner, no public restroom, and a sign on the door warned that only 2 students were allowed inside at a time. 
Now, I can understand not having windshield cleaners since people in Texas steal them so regularly.  I can understand the no public restroom policy since overpainting graffiti on a daily basis is impossible.  I can even undersand the student policy since students today are either punks already and have no morals or studying to be lawyers so they can become politicians and do it right.
What I don't understand is the huge sign in the window asking for donations to SAVE THE CHILDREN.  Don't  they realize that kids grow up to be worse than the examples around them?
